This listing is for a young 1-2ft tall Jujube tree of the GA-866 variety, produced via tissue culture clonal propagation. Your plant will either ship in a Jumbo Ellepot or a 1 gallon pot depending on what option you select

The GA-866 is a fairly new variety of outstanding quality, highly sought after for its reliable production of large, elongated fruit measuring about 1.5 inches long. It is particularly known for its high sugar content and sweet, apple-like flavor. The fruit ripens in the fall and can be harvested when ripe or dried on the tree. For more information about jujube trees, please refer to the later sections of this listing.

***This plant was propagated through tissue culture, which produces a clone of the GA-866 mother plant while maintaining the growth habits of a seedling. Since these trees are not grafted, suckers are less common, and any that do appear from the base will be the same variety as the main trunk.***

These 1-2 feet tall young trees have been cultivated in greenhouse conditions. To help them adjust, they should be gradually acclimate to outdoor environments and be protected during their first winter.

Additional growing information:
-USDA Zones: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11
-Will produce fruit with low chill hours.
-Excellent Disease Resistance
-Jujubes will start producing in 3 or 4 years, and the production can be very heavy.
-Mature Size: 12-16 ft.
-Recommended Spacing: 12-16 ft.
-Water Needs: 4-8 gallons per week May through Sept.
-Pollination Requirement: Partially self-fruitful, they will produce a good quantity of fruit on their own, but you can increase yield by planting certain varieties of Jujube nearby.  The GA-866 variety has flowers that are afternoon receptive with morning pollen shed, so if you are looking for a tree to pair it with you want a morning receptive flower with afternoon pollen shed. Some example varieties are So (aka Dragon’s Claw), Shui Men (Shumen), Chico (aka GI 7-62) and GI 1183.

Your tree will arrive in either a 1 gallon plastic pot or a jumbo ellepot, which is a paper sleeve that contains the roots and soil. Ellepots provide better tree health, easy planting, and reduce plastic waste. These ellepots promote healthy root development by allowing the roots to air prune, making it less likely for the trees to become root bound. Healthy roots are crucial for the long-term vitality of your tree. Additionally, with these jumbo ellepots, you can plant your tree directly without removing the paper sleeve.

More information about Jujube trees & fruit:
Jujube fruit is often referred to as Chinese date or red date, but despite these common names, it is not a true date. It belongs to the buckthorn family and is classified as a species of Ziziphus. This plant grows as a small deciduous tree or shrub, reaching heights of 12 to 16 feet. Jujube trees thrive in hot, arid regions and are highly drought tolerant. They feature shiny green leaves and small, inconspicuous flowers.  The fruit ripens in the fall and can either be dried on the tree or harvested when fully ripe.

Jujube can be eaten fresh or dried. Fresh jujubes have a sweet, apple-like flavor and a crunchy texture. While fresh jujubes are delicious, they become even sweeter as they dry, developing a unique, marshmallow-like texture. When candied and dried, the fruit resembles dates, hence the common name.
