Zebrina Banana, commonly called the Blood Banana or Red-Leaf Banana, is an eye-catching tropical plant known for its dramatic green leaves boldly streaked with deep red or burgundy blotches. Originally native to Southeast Asia, this ornamental banana plant has long been a favorite in exotic gardens and indoor collections alike. Though they occasionally produces small bananas, their real appeal lies in its vibrant foliage and lush, upright habit, making them great house plants. With fast growth and a bold, tropical look, MicroStarts' Zebrina starters grow to make stunning centerpieces in containers, patios, or landscape beds, and can make a great indoor plant.

While still banana plants, Zebrina fruits are known more for their foliage. They do not frequently produce fruit indoors, and when they do, their fruit is small, slender, starchy, and full of seeds.
Our plants are propagated via tissue culture, a clonal process that results in true to type, disease-free plants that are grown on their own roots. They have been grown in ellepots to promote healthy root development.

Perfect for any indoor space, this tropical plant thrives as a houseplant globally. In many climates, it enjoys summer outdoors and prefers indoor protection during winter, while in tropical zones it can grow outside year-round.
With warm temperatures and high humidity, Zebrina banana plants will fruit indoors (though their fruits are more ornamental). After fruiting, the main stem will die back, allowing new suckers to grow.
