Melia azedarach is a remarkably fast-growing and showy deciduous tree, known for its clusters of light purple flowers that carry a delicate, pleasant fragrance.This species is commonly referred to by various names, including chinaberry tree, pride of India, bead-tree, Cape lilac, Persian lilac, Indian lilac, syringa berrytree, inia berry, and white cedar.  A member of the mahogany family (Meliaceae), it is native to the regions of Indomalaya and Australasia. 

When fully grown, these trees typically reaches 20 to 50 feet in height. The tree forms a rounded, dense crown and displays attractive foliage. Fragrant clusters of small flowers appear throughout the canopy, each with five pale purple to lilac petals. In non-sterile varieties, these flowers give way to marble-sized yellow drupes that linger through winter, eventually wrinkling and fading to nearly white. However, this sterile variety eliminates this mess, making it an ideal ornamental choice.
