Alocasia ‘dwarf amazonica‘ is a relatively small alocasia has striking glossy foliage which sprouts from a central corm. The leaves are arrow-shaped and very dark green with light creamy green midribs. They have a glossy, wax like, or leathery texture that really makes them stand out in any plant collection.
In contrast to what the name suggests, the plant does not originate from the Amazon jungle or region, as Alocasia is strictly an Asian genus. The name appears to have originated in the 1950s from a now-defunct Florida nursery called "Amazon Nursery", whose owner Salvadore Mauro bred the plant from 2 parents (A. longiloba ‘Watsoniana and A. sanderiana), and subsequently named it after his nursery.
It is also commonly known as Alocasia x Amazonica, due to its assumed parantage, but that has been disproven and is not considered an accurate name. It has a closely related cultivar known as Alocasia ‘Polly‘ which is nearly identical with smaller and more prolific leaves.
Parentage: Alocasia sanderiana x Alocasia longiloba ‘Watsoniana
Growth rate: Slow-Moderate
Mature size: 1-2 ft tall/wide
***These plants were propagated via tissue culture. They are disease and pest-free***
As these are live plants we do not except returns or exchanges, but if there are issues with your order we can replace or refund with proof that shipment did not arrive in good condition.
