Why Ficus Make Perfect Houseplants

The ficus family (Moraceae) includes more than 800 species native to tropical regions around the world. Indoors, they’re prized for their glossy foliage, graceful silhouettes, and ability to thrive in bright, indirect light. Many are forgiving and relatively easy to care for - a great fit for both beginners and collectors.

⚠️ Safety Note: All ficus plants contain milky sap that can irritate skin and are toxic to pets. Keep out of reach of children and animals.

Ficus elastica (Rubber Plant)

Difficulty: Easy
Light: Bright to medium light

A classic for good reason, the rubber plant (Ficus elastica) is one of the easiest ficus species to grow indoors. Its thick, glossy leaves and upright form make it a statement piece in any room. But not all rubber plants are the same! We currently offer three standout cultivars:

  • Tineke: Elegant and refined, with creamy white and sage-green marbling and subtle blush undertones. Complements minimalist interiors beautifully.
  • Ruby: Bold pink and red tones that intensify under bright light, creating a stunning warm glow.
  • Shivereana (Moonshine Rubber Plant): Luminous yellow-green leaves with faint speckling - perfect for darker corners or paired with deep green plants for contrast.

Cool Fact: In feng shui, rubber plants symbolize prosperity and abundance, and in parts of India, their roots have been trained into living bridges strong enough to walk across!

Compact and upright, with smaller violin-shaped leaves and deep green gloss. Ideal for desks, shelves, or small living areas.

Cool Fact: The larger fiddle leaf fig produces flowers and fruit in its native environment, but both rarely bloom indoors - their beauty lies in their foliage.
